Do I have to pay extra for accommodation?
For most of the volunteer programs accommodation during the weekdays is included - and volunteers usually take advantage of the weekend to travel and explore Ecuador.Other volunteer programs - such as Foundation ARCA - does not include accommodation but can organize a homestay or guesthouse for volunteers if they are asked in advance.Fortunately, accommodation is very reasonably priced in Ecuador, and a clean and comfortable hotel can cost anywhere between $8 to $25 per night
Is Food Included in the volunteer price?
Food is normally not included in the volunteer program unless the program explicitly states that breakfast, lunch, or dinner is provided.Fortunately, however, food is very reasonably priced in Ecuador and an average lunch which comes with a soup, a plate of rice, chicken, and vegetables, and fresh juice costs between $1.50 and $3.50, depending on the town or city.The volunteer programs do have kitchen facilities available where you can prepare your own food which can be purcahsed in corner stores or supermarkets.
Is Ecuador vegetarian friendly?
While Ecuador is not the holy grail for vegetarians, like India, you will love all the fresh, organic fruits and vegetables available from the local markets.As most of the volunteer work programs do not include food you should have no problem preparing nutritious vegetarian meals in the kitchen facilities provided.
Am I required to volunteer on the weekends as well?
As mentioned above the volunteer work programs normally run between Monday to Friday so you get the weekends free for leisure and travel time to explore Ecuador. Working on the weekend is to the discretion of the program coordinator.
