The main objective of ARCA is to promote respect and solidarity with all forms of animal life, without distinction of species, and to actively transform the beliefs in Ecuadorian society towards other forms of animal life.
To achieve this ARCA has established the following strategic priorities: educational programs and training activists, mounting legal and legislative defense of animals, as well as grassroots organizing and medical vetinarial drives.
The eradication of all human practices involving the abuse, exploitation and mistreatment of other animal species is the core policy of the ARCA Foundation.
History of the ARCA Foundation
ARCA since its inception has designed and implemented animal defense programs delimited in its various strategic areas: educational, with the creation of spaces for reflection and awareness in the childhood and youth of local educational centers; Legal, with the management of ordinances and laws of defense and protection of animals; Of denunciation, with the social projection of protest to the mistreatment of animals in public spectacles, experimentation, abandonment, etc .; Of rescue actions, with the care, recovery and adoption of abandoned and ill-treated animals; In the formation of ARCA activists with the realization of workshops that deal with various issues of animal defense.
In addition, ARCA shares the ecological struggle of organizations of citizens, peasants, nationally and globally that resist to keep the planet alive, because the commitment is integral. Similarly, it rejects and sympathizes with the struggles that seek to eradicate all types of violence, not only in the human-animal relationship, but also human-human, especially the one generated in exploitative, dominant and exclusive structures, mainly exercised With vulnerable groups such as girls, the elderly, women, the disabled, etc.
The Volunteer Program
One of our axes of work is oriented towards the companion animals. In this area we maintain a permanent program of rescue, recovery and adoption of dogs and cats found on the public highway in a calamitous state. In this ARCA program, 800 animals a year receive medical treatment at our veterinary clinic, after which they are transferred to our shelter while awaiting their possible reintegration into a new home, which implies a strong demand for resources Economic and human that we solve with self-management.
At present ARCA maintains in its shelter more than 300 puppies, which are provided with food, veterinary attention and all the necessary care ensuring that their living conditions are healthy and happy.
The costs involved in the maintenance of these animals is very high, as well as the expenses incurred in dealing with dogs and cats on the street that arrive seriously ill or whose owners are of limited resources, that is why small donations to the ARCA Foundation help us continue helping these helpless and vulnerable animals.
